Sevilla manager Vincenzo Montella has hailed Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho for his winning mentality with both clubs poised to clash in the Champions League.
United first have a match vs Huddersfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup to deal with and then will contend with the Spanish side in the midweek fixture on Wednesday.
A return to cup football will be a welcome distraction to many fans and perhaps even those involved with the club as they bid to recover from two poor losses vs Newcastle and Tottenham.
The Red Devils are certainly aiming to bounce back and will need their manager to be at his utmost best to keep them all going.
Montella seems to believe that Mourinho has the best winning mentality and perhaps that could aide the club to finish the season off strongly.
According to Goal, Vincenzo said: “Mourinho is more of a winner than any of us. He’s coaching in a way that gets in the mind of the player to get the best out of them.
“I like [Las Palmas coach] Paco Jemez because his team has identity. They always look to play and are organised without the ball.
“They’re two different philosophies, but if I wanted to be like either of them it would be for Mourinho’s capacity to win, respecting Paco of course, who has a career trajectory more similar to mine.”
Jose’s main problem will be transmitting his winning mentality onto his players and while supporters can see the effects of that with some of the players, it’s also clear some of them simply lack it.
The only explanation for the inconsistencies Manchester United have faced this season is because they play at times as though they don’t need to win.
Loses against Newcastle and Tottenham were certainly bad but what frustrated fans even more was the gutless display put on by the players.
Jose Mourinho can definitely tell there is still some dead wood in the squad that’ll need clearing out in the summer transfer window and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some more ins and outs.
