Richarlison discusses Watford future amid Arsenal & Chelsea links

Toby Lambert, February 15, 2018

Watford attacker Richarlison has spoken out on his future with the Hornets today, amid growing speculation regarding his possible departure from the club.

Prodigious starlet

Richarlison, a Brazilian U20 international, made the surprise move to Vicarage Road last summer from Fluminense, having been tracked by a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.

All of Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona were linked with moves for the winger/forward, who subsequently went on to enjoy a hugely impressive start to life in the Premier League.

Despite his tender years and lack of European experience, Richarlison took to English football like a duck to water, racking up 5 goals and 3 assists in his first 14 Premier League outings.

Disapproval

However, the last couple of months have proven a far more challenging experience for the South American, with Watford’s dip in form having seen Richarlison’s goalscoring exploits dry up.

The struggles endured by the Hornets also resulted in the sacking of manager Marco Silva last month, a move which did not sit well with several members of the club’s squad.

Richarlison was one to take to social media to showcase his anger at the decision, posting the following on Twitter in the immediate aftermath of the announcement:

On the move?

Richarlison’s reaction to Silva’s dismissal saw speculation surrounding the Brazilian’s future at Vicarage Road immediately reignite, with Arsenal and Chelsea the sides most-heavily touted as potential destinations.

However, speaking in an interview with the London Evening Standard earlier today, Richarlison was keen to make clear his commitment to the Watford cause, though the youngster also refused to definitively rule out an exit:

‘In the future you never know but I leave all things like that up to my agents.’

‘At the moment my head is completely in Watford.’

‘I am not thinking about anything else and I want to help the team get as far as possible in the league.’

‘That is my objective, that is my focus and nothing else.’

‘I want to play in this country for as long as possible.’

‘It is a great league and has been a great experience for me. I want to improve and playing in England can help me do that.’
