Youth replacement
Manchester United star Michael Carrick is coming to the end of his career at Old Trafford and has revealed who should replace him.
While it’s easy to start suggesting some of the best midfielders in the world, Carrick has other ideas.
That is because the player has chosen youth star Scott McTominay as the man who should take over.
Jose Mourinho has included the player in his squad on a number of occasions this season.
Not only off the bench, he is starting to become somewhat of a regular in the first team squad.
Now, club captain Carrick has starting bigging up the possibility of McTominay replacing him.
“Scotty has done great,” Carrick told the official Manchester United website.
“The improvement has been so great over the last six to 12 months when we’ve seen him training with us a lot more.
“You can see that he steps up to every challenge that has been set in every environment. He is an athlete. He is strong, quick and very good on the ball. He has got all of the attributes to have a really good career.
“I know he will take my place someday and that is not something I would be afraid of, or try to put him off, because it is important to help the future and Scott is definitely that.
“It is my responsibility to do all I can to help him.”
Former PL star discusses Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United
While Carrick’s position is likely to go to other players, Paul Pogba playing there has brought up some big questions recently.
That is because the player has featured in the deep midfield role for a couple of games now and it’s not gone well.
It’s caused to tensions between Pogba and Jose Mourinho but one former Premier League star thinks it shouldn’t make a big deal.
