Paul Merson is certain that Real Madrid will make a move for Harry Kane in the summer, speaking on Soccer Saturday.
The former Arsenal player believes that the defending European champions need a new striker and Kane is “the best centre-forward in the world”.
The 24-year-old has been constantly linked with a move to the Spanish capital and Merson believes he is the man to replace Karim Benzema.
‘Tottenham should be worried’
The Sky Sports pundit believes that Tottenham should be fearful of Los Blancos moving for their striker.
He believes that a bid worth around £150-200 million would be enough to secure the English international’s services next season.
Tottenham, meanwhile, remain adamant that no players they wish to keep hold of will be sold and Kane is top of that list.
Merson said:
“I would be worried if I was Tottenham because money talks. £200 million, or even £160 million is a lot.
“I can’t see how Real Madrid don’t go for him in the summer for £150-200 million. How’s Benzema playing for Real Madrid?
“He’s not in the same class as Kane. They’re a million points behind Barcelona and they need a new centre-forward.”
Worth more than £200 million
101 Great Goals says…
Jamie Brown: Firstly, Kane, to Tottenham, is worth well in excess of £200 million and with Daniel Levy in charge, signing him for a fee of that size would be a miracle.
Second of all, Kane, being a Spurs boy through and through and will desperate to lead his club out into their new 62,000-seater stadium this summer.
No doubt that one day Kane could play for Los Blancos, but in the near future, given his recent comments, it is very unlikely.
