Trophies
Roy Keane has hit out at the lack of trophies won by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, and noted that he expects them to be doing far more.
The former Manchester United player claimed he thinks the duo should at least be winning FA Cups – and while the focus is of course on the Champions League, they need to be winning something to get in their trophy cabinet.
“For a club the size of Liverpool and Tottenham, one trophy in 10 years is pretty embarrassing.
“I know the Champions League has taken over now, particularly with the money behind it, but to be successful to be a big club you need to win trophies.
“The clubs you’re talking about, Liverpool and Spurs, should be able to compete in the Champions League and certainly qualify, and win an FA Cup or a League Cup.
“[Of] course you should be able to win an FA Cup or a League Cup, that should go hand in hand.”
Champions League
As Keane says, the focus is now more on the Champions League, but that is no excuse, and it seems that at least both clubs can look forward to a decent run in the prestigious competition.
Liverpool are all but through to the next round after their game with Porto and a brilliant first leg, and while Spurs have some work to do in the second leg, the fact they managed to come back from two goals down to get a draw against Juventus is huge, and they are now the favourites to progress after a hard group and a very tough draw in the first knockout round.
The Premier League may be gone, as is the FA Cup for Liverpool but both sides will want to show they are progressing – and the utter minimum this season is a top four finish.
