West Ham ready move for Hibernian midfielder

As per several reports in the English media this afternoon, West Ham United are eyeing a move for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn.

Class act

McGinn, a 23-year-old Scottish international, has been on the books of Hibs since 2015, when he joined the club from fellow Scottish outfit St. Mirren.

The gifted technician has taken his game to another level over the last couple of seasons, and has found the net on 6 occasions in 34 appearances to this point in the current campaign.

McGinn has been linked with moves to both Celtic and Rangers over the last 12 months, but, as per a report from the Daily Record this afternoon, Premier League outfit West Ham United have emerged as the new leading contender for his services.

Hammers’ assistant manager Billy McKinlay reportedly attended Hibernian’s league clash with Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon, with McGinn playing a starring role as Neil Lennon’s men emerged with a 2-0 victory.

McKinlay was said to have been sufficiently impressed by the showing of the 5-time capped Scottish international to suggest that McGinn is of the required standard to ply his trade in the Premier League, with a £5 million bid now being touted on the part of West Ham.

It remains to be seen whether such an offer would be of interest to Hibernian, though, with McGinn held in extremely high regard by both the board and staff at Easter Road.
