The Sun columnist claims Mourinho is failing at Man Utd

The Sun columnist David Kidd believes Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is failing at the club in a bizarre rant.

The Portuguese manager has come in for a fair share of criticism of late after defeats to Newcastle and Tottenham frustrated fans.

More so than the result, supporters were disappointed with the toothless and gutless performances from the club’s players.

Although most are unhappy with the situation, they aren’t by any means calling Mourinho a failure or asking him to leave.

They’re simply asking for a few changes but Kidd believes the former Real Madrid manager is not living up to standards at Old Trafford in a scathing column.

According to 101 Great Goals, David wrote in The Sun: “Mourinho is moulding some extraordinary footballers into one distinctly average Manchester United side.

“Defeats at Tottenham and Newcastle have laid bare the fact that players are not improving individually or collectively under Mourinho, a manager who no longer seems to learn from his mistakes.

“At dressing-room and boardroom level, United are making it up as they go along. This is a very different Mourinho. Jaded, careworn, paranoid — and failing.”

Jose’s insistence to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation has incurred the wrath of fans who believe the club who experience more success with a 4-3-3 formation.

The reason is that an additional midfielder would see star Paul Pogba at his best and there were signs of proof in the comfortable win vs Everton earlier in the season.

The Frenchman played one of his best games in that formation but when asked to play as a holding midfielder in the 4-2-3-1 double pivot he underperforms.

Jose Mourinho’s stubbornness may have a more acceptable reason, for example, if he believed the Red Devils simply don’t have the quality in midfield, then it would make sense.

There may also be the problem of dropping an in-form Jesse Lingard from the attacking midfield berth, unless the ‘Special One’ simply wants to retrain Pogba in the role he wants.
